Pattaya Bikini Contest and Foam Dancing?

August 17, 2007 by admin · 3 Comments

I have a real love-hate relationship with the Pattaya City News online paper. They have some killer stories and photos sometimes and then other times they drop the ball so hard that it explodes… and one is left wondering - why the hell did I try to go read another PCN story?

This morning I was excited about reading their bikini contest and foam dance party on the roof of a club in Pattaya story. Afterall, these are the guys that get photos of guys sleeping behind the wheel of their vehicle in the middle of traffic. They usually GET the photo and, having been a paparazzi photographer in NYC many years ago I can really appreciate that. It is TOUGH to get the photo sometimes.

Here on the rooftop of a club with a bikini contest and foam party at night - I’m thinking I could snap cell phone photos at 640×480 resolution better than these 6 pictures they had the gall to show on their site.

I honestly cannot tell you WHAT IS GOING ON in ANY of the 6 photos. I haven’t the slightest idea. I was so pissed off when I saw the poor quality photos that I didn’t even CARE what was going on. My respect for the PCN dropped another click and I’ll be more tentative about clicking on stories that I’m excited to see - because those are the ones that I usually am disappointed about!

Please go see this series of 6 photos and try hard for a few minutes to understand WHAT they are of, and why they would post them in online…

I think what really tweaks my turtle is that these guys are THERE and that’s most of the equation, all they have to do is up the quality on what they’re doing and they’d be an awesome news source. They could easily be the best news source for on the spot coverage of things in Pattaya. They could expand to other cities even… maybe they have - not sure.

Please guys, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade and you’ll take it to a new level!

59 Thailand Notecard (Index card) Jokes

August 17, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

I finally made a good copy of these Thailand jokes with PhotoShop that previously I’d handwritten. I’ve revised some because on closer inspection they weren’t quite right, now I think they’re pretty understandable. If you’re stumped about one, let me know and I’ll try to explain.

This is a complete collection, about 9 per page and the last page might have 15 or so.

They aren’t for everyone, but many have written that they really liked them, so I made more.

Match the Bar Girl with Her REAL Boyfriend…

August 14, 2007 by admin · 10 Comments

Thought I’d have a multiple choice question today…. It’s called, “Match the bar girl with her real boyfriend”…

a.) The guy that banged her last night for “short-time”

b.) The Thai guy that she gives money to every week so he can drink with his friends and not have to work (she really loves this guy from her heart)

c.) The guy she has a baby with in Isaan that her mother or sister is taking care of

d.) The guy she didn’t meet yet that’s gonna bang her tonight “short-time”

e.) The guy she took back to her village in Isaan 2 weeks ago that wanted to meet her family before they get married in 6 months

f.) The other guy sending 25,000 baht every month so she stays out of the bars because they are engaged

g.) The “tom” girl that she also gives money to and that she likes a lot, but is confused if it’s what she really wants

h.) One of the 57 other expats from around the world that routinely give her a go when they’re in town a couple times per year

Which one is the REAL boyfriend?

Which one are you?

I think my readers are too smart to fall for this one… or, they have already been here and seen the anti-bargirl and Pattaya expat rants and raves and go elsewhere for their humor.

Is there another type of Thai bar girl boyfriend I forgot?

Thailand Bird trying his Damnedest to Impress me…

August 14, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

Some birds are smart, they realize, since they’re in a cage that they might as well entertain passerby visitors. Especially if you’re a bird in a cage in a zoo that doesn’t get many visitors each day because it’s rainy season and there are maybe 30 people that pay the 10 baht to come in and peer past the fence and cages to see you…

This bird was right on the ball though.

This bird had the coolest sounds come out of him… and not just one chirp… You know, most birds have one chirp and even the most beautiful sounding chirp will get annoying after 75 times or so. This bird KNEW that, and he changed it up to keep me entertained! I wanted to throw him some Thai baht by the time I left!

There he was, trying his heart out - you can SEE IT! He’s using his entire body to perform for me, and it’s not going unappreciated… If I didn’t have the camera in my hand I’d have clapped it was so awesome.

Now, there is an ANNOYING as all hell bird on the right side that doesn’t understand performing… and that bird can go to hell for all I care, but the one on the left I wanted to rip the door off the cage and free his silly ass to let him fly through the sky again far away from his idiot cagemate he was unlucky enough to get stuck with.

Maybe he thought if he performed well enough he’d earn an escape… I’d feel so sorry for him being stuck with idiot bird that I’d free him…

Well, maybe I’ll go back and free him sometime when I get up that way next…

Here’s another video of a bird that wasn’t so smart… There I was, giving him part of my precious time to talk to him a little bit and he just wasn’t “getting it”… I gave up in frustration on that bird…

I’m kind of tired of writing so much as I’ve been overdoing it lately. I’m trying to keep all my blogs up and running as well as get some new stuff started.

Sometimes I’ll post some of these video blogs as they are a different form of effort than writing.

Today’s first video blog (vlog in geekspeak).

Thailand has BIG Wildlife… Jurassic Spider on my Porch

August 11, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

Big, hairy brown spider in ThailandIn keeping with the wildlife theme of late I had to get this video up.

I was going to grab some things off the clothes line (I’m so domestic), when I saw this thing hiding under a ridge from the rain.

It’s easily the largest spider I’ve seen in Thailand, and I think I’ve seen a fair number. Here’s a photo and video of it.

Has anyone seen one bigger than this in Thailand? I’m a real nut for spiders and snakes, centipedes and millipedes and things… If you have any photos or videos send me them and I’ll get them up on my Thaipulse.com site.

Click the photo on the right to see it BIG-SIZE.

How Many Legs does a Cow in Thailand Have?

August 9, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

A little Thailand trivia for you this morning… how many legs does a cow in Thailand have?

Man, I wish I had a poll for this one - but the poll feature doesn’t work since I host this blog at my own site… bummer.

If you download this video you might be surprised how many legs a cow DOES have… This was taken at a small zoo that is in the back of a park in Sisaket, the Queen Mother’s park… it’s a beautiful place that is cool because of the trees and when the flowers are blooming in April and May it’s quite nice… there are a couple small lakes that are filled with ravenous catfish and Tilapia that you can feed too… Really a cool park.

Until you get to the zoo of misformed animals in the back… I’ll post a couple videos of the odd animals there over the next day or so - depending on speed of my upload connection from this internet cafe.

When I looked at another video I have of the same cow I found out that I was incorrect about how many legs this cow actually has as 2 of them are hidden… so, add “2″ to the total that I say in the video and that’s how many legs this cow has!

This cow has ___ legs, not 4 (video) >

Gross Things to Eat in Thailand (Videos) 1-8 links

August 7, 2007 by admin · 4 Comments

I’m getting email a few times per week from visitors to Thaipulse that just saw the Gross Grub series of videos that I did on my other site.

I’ll repost the links her to the blog post and then to the file directly to download.

I had the silly idea to eat a lot of bugs and a scorpion one day - figuring it would be good video…

Here are the links for direct download. Much easier to right click each file and choose “Save file as” or “Save target as” or “Save link as” - depending which browser you have. You can download multiple files that way and save them to your hard drive - and they’ll play much more smoothly as well when you double click them on your computer.

Enjoy…

Video of Vern in the hospital as a result of eating the big scorpion. I was a little bit out of it here, I was dizzy, my heart was beating very weirdly - like rolling, not beating rythmically… it was rolling like a wave action instead of a heartbeat. Very odd. I was still not sure I wasn’t going to have an asthma attack and die…

Gross Grub 9: Water bugs! I don’t know why, but this was the last straw… I had to draw the line…

American Dead in Pattaya, here’s a Photo of his Passport with Number

August 4, 2007 by admin · 4 Comments

Don’t flame me over this -

Thai Newspaper posts American’s Passport with identifying information (Pattaya City News):

Dead American’s Passport (scroll down)

They posted his photo and the entire story, as well as his passport with the number!

Is that crazy?

Do you think as a blogger one could get kicked out of Thailand for posting the national ID card of a Thai citizen complete with the information?

I would think.

Pattaya City News has some great stories - they are RIGHT THERE for the action and their photos are just brilliant at times, and bewildering why they chose certain photos other times.

Their stories always suck, and the way they tell it is not smooth or professional. Most stories are ‘tabloid’ at best and scandalous at worst

… always there are gaps in the story and it’s left to the reader to fill them in - if she/he cared to.

Vern is an INTJ Personality Type… What are YOU?

August 3, 2007 by admin · 2 Comments

In graduate school in the states I completed many psychological instruments that were well accepted as the standards by which the population of the USA would be judged.

I took the Myers-Briggs and was found to be an INTJ type. The Mastermind! Ha! They have names for all the 16 types.

I read the profile of what the psychologists believed INTJ’s to be like, and you know what? They were RIGHT on the money. So strange how close they can peg me after answering just a couple hundred questions. There are shorter tests out there… I just found one on Stumbleupon.com in my member profile. It’s an abbreviated test - maybe there were 50 questions.

I took it again just now - and still, INTJ.

Here is what I’m typically like - it’s a description of someone’s idea of what INTJ people are like, and it’s basically ME.
********************

To outsiders, INTJs may appear to project an aura of “definiteness”, of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that most INTJs start building at an early age. When it comes to their own areas of expertise — and INTJs can have several — they will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not they can help you, and if so, how. INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don’t know.

INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion “Does it work?” to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake.

INTJs are known as the “Systems Builders” of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as INTJs can be unsparing of both themselves and the others on the project. Anyone considered to be “slacking,” including superiors, will lose their respect — and will generally be made aware of this; INTJs have also been known to take it upon themselves to implement critical decisions without consulting their supervisors or co-workers. On the other hand, they do tend to be scrupulous and even-handed about recognizing the individual contributions that have gone into a project, and have a gift for seizing opportunities which others might not even notice.

In the broadest terms, what INTJs “do” tends to be what they “know”. Typical INTJ career choices are in the sciences and engineering, but they can be found wherever a combination of intellect and incisiveness are required (e.g., law, some areas of academia). INTJs can rise to management positions when they are willing to invest time in marketing their abilities as well as enhancing them, and (whether for the sake of ambition or the desire for privacy) many also find it useful to learn to simulate some degree of surface conformism in order to mask their inherent unconventionality.

Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ’s Achilles heel. While they are capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and are willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations.

This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense. This sometimes results in a peculiar ‘naivete’, paralleling that of many Fs — only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.

Probably the strongest INTJ assets in the interpersonal area are their intuitive abilities and their willingness to “work at” a relationship. Although as Ts they do not always have the kind of natural empathy that many Fs do, the Intuitive function can often act as a good substitute by synthesizing the probable meanings behind such things as tone of voice, turn of phrase, and facial expression. This ability can then be honed and directed by consistent, repeated efforts to understand and support those they care about, and those relationships which ultimately do become established with an INTJ tend to be characterized by their robustness, stability, and good communications.
