Official Google Blog: Knol is open to everyone
Google has created a Wiki-like encyclopedia that anyone can write for. The formatting is MUCH easier than WIKI creation and apparently running Google Adsense is a possibility. The critics are labeling it a bad move for Google considering they’ve said repeatedly that they aren’t in the ‘content game’. They direct people to others content… Now the game has changed. Knol is short for “knowledge” and they say it is a “unit of knowledge.”
If you write authoritatively on some topic - try a post there and see what happens. Already 33% of knols are in the top 10 for their keywords. Google may adjust that since it’s coming under fire for ranking the knols too high.

Increase Battery Life with New 3G iPhone, Apple’s Tips
July 23, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Apple has some great suggestions for helping you save some precious battery life in your new expensive as all hell 3G iPhone… don’t use it for anything it was made for. Really. That’s their solution to extending your battery life. These eleven tips come straight from Apple… (and my comments italicized)
Apple’s New 3G iPhone battery life increasers:
- Turn off 3G. Why buy the new iPhone WITH 3G then?
- Minimize use of location services. Go back to using maps and telephone directories.
- Fetch new data less frequently. Instead of surfing the web for 30 mins, try to make it just 15. You’ll save more battery.
- Turn off push mail. You don’t really want to be notified of all email coming in. Oh wait, is that why you BOUGHT the iPhone… oh. Well, just turn it off - the battery lasts longer that way.
- Auto-check fewer email accounts. Rearrange your whole incoming email scheme to include just 1 or 2 email accounts and then you’ll have more battery! Never mind that you have 3 companies and 16 email accounts you need to keep separate.
- Minimize use of third-party applications. Don’t visit our apps stores because apps drain batteries. You want longer battery life, right?
- Turn off Wi-Fi.
- Turn off Bluetooth
- Use Airplane Mode in low- or no-coverage areas
- Adjust brightness
- Turn off EQ
What the hell is left?
Basically, Apple is saying, ‘Don’t use the iPhone because we’re too damn dumb to listen to what every mobile phone user has been saying for over a decade about every mobile phone that was ever made…”
WE NEED THE BATTERY
TO LAST AT LEAST A WEEK!!
Can you do that?
You can give me GPS so I know where I am in the middle of a desert. You can give me broadband WIFI access invisibly through the air and yet you can’t make the battery in my phone another 2.34 square inches larger so I can use it for a week taking liberal advantage of all the outrageously priced features I PAID FOR.
You know?
What IS this game?
I’ll buy an Apple iPhone when their CEO and all officers of the corp. pull their fat heads out of their sphincters.
Here Apple is basically telling you that you don’t need all the features you just paid for in their iPhone.
If you want to save battery buy one of these phones - they have none of the advanced features of the iPhone - but they’ve got battery life to spare…

Is Your Thai Tee-Rak Capable of Killing You?
July 10, 2008 by admin · 6 Comments
3 Thai girls 30 and under are prime suspects in the death of a Dutch man in Pattaya. Apparently the man took a cell phone from one of them, in an attempt to keep her from going back to the bar to work.
She hit him in the head with a metal pipe and then stabbed him in the throat. He died in the restroom. They set his house on fire.
If you go to the site that had the story: http://www.pattayaone.net/news_09_07_51.html you’ll see the photos of these girls.
Don’t they look like any other Thai girl you see on the streets here? Might you date one of these girls at some point? Are you dating one NOW? Thais are different than westerners. We all know that. But, where they’re remarkably different is when they get upset. They seem to lose all common sense once they go over the edge. They are completely irrational and incapable of thinking at that point. They are what we would say in the states, momentarily insane. They really are. How could a guy taking a phone from someone lead to a metal pipe to the head and a “sword” through the neck? (which I think they meant, knife as that what was in the photo.)
I’ve noticed it a lot over the years - when Thais’ flip - they flip the hell out. They are inconsolable and they seem incapable of stopping their tirade until someone is dead.
Just another reason to avoid bar girls and ladyboys in the sex-tourist areas. Many of them are on drugs. Many of them think violence is acceptable. You’ve seen like I have the number of tourists being beat up and killed lately. Sure, maybe we’re hearing about it more - but that doesn’t negate the high levels. It’s happening. It’s happening often.
