Thailand FAQ

December 11, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

I’ve been meaning to do a Thailand FAQ for a long time. There are many questions visitors and expats alike have about Thailand and most visitors I’m sure end up using a TH FAQ before coming to LOS. I wanted to make one that’s useful and that combines not only my knowledge but other resources as well.

Thailand FAQ is a pool of information from a number of sites - and I’ll be adding to it over today and tomorrow as well. There are many subjects that deserve a whole FAQ for themselves. The Full Moon Party was one of them.

If you have written a FAQ about some part of Thailand - the culture, attractions, anything really - shoot me a link and let me see if it will fit with this Thailand FAQ collection.

Video Blog 1: I’m feeling a little Feisty…

August 12, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

I’m kind of tired of writing so much as I’ve been overdoing it lately. I’m trying to keep all my blogs up and running as well as get some new stuff started.

Sometimes I’ll post some of these video blogs as they are a different form of effort than writing.

Today’s first video blog (vlog in geekspeak).

A little Feisty…” medium rez (6.3MB)

Bangkok Short Time Hotel Video is live (finally)

July 19, 2007 by admin · 1 Comment

I uploaded this morning. You’ll need to go to the page below and then find the video link towards the bottom of the page. Right click the link and “save the file” or “save target as” a file on your desktop so you can find it.

The file is 18MB and fairly large if you have a slow connection. If you have broadband it should fly.

Here is the link:

Ok, better yet - here is the actual link - because it is a little difficult to find on that page:

Success! re: Blogger "Draft" Beta with Video Uploads

June 22, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

This is great news to see this actually work well with my phone (Test Blogger Video)

- no need to edit my .mp4 file the phone creates either - just upload and it looks great. Problem is that the phone video camera has a high resolution and 8 seconds of video is half a Megabyte… I should run some tests with the other resolutions allowed by the phone (Nokia e70) to see if they all show up as nicely as this one did.

Another reason for newbies to use Blogger as it’s so simple… Don’t know when this beta version will be out but some of us that signed up to test advanced features can see this link to try it…

Now video blogging (vlogging) with your phone is quite easy… Nokia has a lot of phones with the 2MP cameras and 30 frames per second video capability so check them out!

4 Songkran Videos: Tips

April 11, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

Ok, I finished editing the few videos I had about Songkran.

Here is a link to the page on my other site that I put the videos on:

Songkran Videos >

One video covers proper Songkran attire.
(1.8MB)

One shows the Songkran PVC squirter tubes.
(5.6MB)

One video shows the safe way to squirt someone with the tubes since they ARE technically illegal but you’ll still see quite a few of them. They were banned because they can really hurt the eyes when sprayed in the face. It sucks to get a stream in the eye-ball, I’ll testify to that.
(8.5MB)

The last video shows the proper way to apply powder to the face of strangers… and an improper way.
(2.2MB)

Have a look at the videos - they are not on YOUTUBE - so you’ll be able to see them. They are pretty small files and should download fairly quickly with a fast connection.

Have fun at Songkran this year, you know I STILL am not sure which day it starts - tomorrow or Friday…

New Thailand Videos: Waterfalls, Headless Centipedes, Cute Kids

March 29, 2007 by admin · 3 Comments

Here are links to a few new videos that were shot long ago, but only today do I have a fast enough connection to upload them all to the server on my site.

Here I catch a gecko that was running around the living room. You should really invest in one of these small nets if you can. You can catch centipedes, spiders, geckos, dragonflies, large bees and anything else that flies into your home.

A boy of about 5 years old kills a lizard and brings it back for us all to see. We all make a big deal about it. This is the natural state of things in baan naawk (countryside) here in Thailand. They might barbeque it and fry it up.

Thai Boy, 5, Kills Lizard Video >

This is from Koh Samui. We are at the Big Buddha during a holiday and I wanted to document this Buddhist donation machine. Rotating bowls that collect the donations and recycle. GOOD IDEA.

Buddhist Donation Machine Video >

The next one is a Buddhist Fortune Teller Machine > This gives you a magical number that will tell you what your fortune is on the papers below corresponding to the number chosen by the machine. After we read our fortune I read the one next to it - which is quite hilarious.

For Chinese New Years I buy about 2700 firecrackers and light them off (in groups of 250 or 500 at a time). Good fun and a BIG MESS.

Cute Thai kids we met at a waterfall in Surat Thani on the weekend about 2 months ago. The girls were darling, the boy a bit annoying. We had a good time going off the vine into the water under the waterfall.

Cute Thai Kids Video >

Top of (or, level 8 rather) Dod Fa Waterfall in Surat Thani Province. There are more levels - but how to reach them was anyone’s guess. Supposedly there are like 22 levels I think? It’s even difficult to find this level 8 and I had some experience co-workers leading me up to it. We were the only ones there - really a cool place. The video shows some of the falls - but, further up and set back into the hill is more of it that can be seen through the trees if one steps back.

Handfeeding Thailand’s Piranha… (Tilapia)

Feeding Thailand’s Piranha Video >

Jonny Durex? We were walking around a wat on Koh Samui that is out further than the Big Buddha and we saw this memorial that appears to be a gag - at a Thai (Chinese) Buddhist temple. Someone created a memorial to Jonny Durex. Is this a gag? All the others were in Thai and serious (real). This one I’m not so sure about.

Jonny Durex Memorial at Buddhist Temple Video >

Kids will be kids… The same group of cute kids from the video above. They found a huge centipede and someone had chopped it in the head before we got there. When I started filming I wasn’t aware there was a problem with it’s head until it started to move. Wow. Then later when I was paying attention to something else, they had separated the head from the body and it was running around with about 2 segments and it’s head. Crazy eh? This IS the countryside…

Headless Centipede in Thailand Video >

A big Katydid.

Thailand Katydid Video >

Phurin Waterfall, Suratthani, Thailand. A long video (4:38) walking around the waterfall and pools and watching the kids having fun swinging on the vine over the water. I try it too.

Enjoy these videos from Thailand. Copy them, share them, whatever…
