Level 8: Dod Fa Waterfall and Leeches on the Bollocks…

I’m not proud of it, in fact, I’m still wondering WHY I did it… Except that I think the picture has some viral potential if it starts getting passed around the web. I’ll stick my web site address on it and see how many people I get coming to my site from new sources… My friend had a leech on him, the first one of our trip – and I stuck it to my bolls and let it latch on there good and swell a bit before getting the pics. I don’t remember a leech hurting anywhere else before – but this one gave me some pain – real or psychological – no difference… I suffered for my stupidity a bit.

I see someone smiling.

So, we meet at the falls and get hiking. My g/f stayed at the bottom and read a book, we were gone 3 hours so she nearly finished it! The other two guys – a yank and a brit brought their girlfriends. One is calling a whore from Phuket his girlfriend, hence the blog rant the other day on that subject… and the other guy is corrupting this sweet naieve teacher from the school he works at. We stopped along the way to eat, swim, and of course these guys HAD to smoke some pot. I’m thinking its a daily occurence with these guys. It’s unbelievable to me the amount of times that I’m seeing them do it because I don’t hang out with them often… almost NEVER. And yet, everytime I’m with one of them I’m watching them smoke bowls or joints. Anyway, I have some great stories coming up later on this topic…

We swam at some great falls and had a good time hiking. The two guys decided to walk along the stream while I took the two girls through the woods – both had slippahs (Hawaiian slang term for them) – the flip flops that don’t hold the heel at all. Half the time the girls walked barefoot. Well – one was ahead – not necessarily leading – but she appeared to know where she was going. She didn’t.

I had to re-route us and we got into a couple hairy situations on the side of the hill. We saw the guys ahead and yelled – but the crashing water where the guys were obliterated our voices. Right about now the girls decided to check their feet and legs for leeches… on the side of this hill that was very steep at parts… it’s like -in mid-stride they decide to both do it. They’re both screaming and trying to pull them off – they each had more than 4. I pulled them off and threw them away – telling them – “Jai yen, Krup” to relax them a bit… they were almost hysterical. Then they saw my feet covered with them and wanted to pull them off too – I said, “mai pen rai krup” and hurried them down the hill to safe parts. Anyway, we made it down to the water again and the guys had gone back to look for us somebody told us 15 minutes later…

I left them there at one of the falls with other friends of ours that decided to come this day too… guess they met up again – I high-tailed it back to see if my g/f had left on the motorbike… nope – still there, reading quietly. I sat down and looked at my feet… Hmmm… 4 on one foot and 3 on the other. The right foot was the worst, those leeches were fat by now. After pulling them off I took the photo here. Beside my foot you can see one of them that I pulled off…

So – yeah, go hiking in Thailand -but if you’re skeeved out by leeches wear shoes, socks, rubber bands around your pants to hold them tight against your legs… and you’ll STILL find one under your pants or socks. They really get in there regardless. They are basically harmless unless you get an infection after pulling it off. I’ve had many bites – and no problems. They don’t even itch… except for this ONE between my legs… hmmmmmm

NO I’m not posting the other photo here! Quit asking Dana!
