Crystal Pool (Morakot) in Krabi, Thailand

Morakot (Crystal Pond) Krabi, Thailand

If you rent a motorbike in Krabi and want to know what you can do for a short half-day trip Crystal Pond (Morakot) is an ideal place to see. It’s a pond from natural spring water. It is about 40 km from Krabi town center towards Khlong Thom district (southeast) and it’s rather easy to find if you keep to the main roads and don’t follow any sign that says “short-cut” like we did the first time we tried to go! We were lost and didn’t get to see the pond at all!

There is a 200 baht charge for adult tourists and a nominal fee for any Thai guest you might be bringing along. I think it’s 20 baht. Don’t get upset if you don’t see them charging ANY of the Thai people except the ones that the farangs (foreigners) are with because that is just business as usual. At Huay Toh waterfall in Krabi one time this really got to me as my girlfriend and myself were the ONLY two people to pay out of approximately 50 people we saw walk by the gate without paying. Mai pen rai is your best attitude because though it’s infuriating, it’s just the way it is here…

Crystal Lagoon Krabi,ThailandSo, pay your fee and take a walk through the woods. Some of the walk is on a wooden boardwalk up over the marsh and it’s a nice nature walk, not far at all - less than 1km I think.

The pond is gorgeous, very clear water and there will be a hundred people or more swimming if it’s the weekend (kids mostly). If you go in the morning on a weekday, you’re better off numbers-wise as you’ll have less than 10-20 people there. There were about 10 people for us until the afternoon when school must have let out early and busloads of crazy Thai kids came! It was fun watching them have fun - but for us the fun of swimming in a relaxing pool and putting our head under the stream was over.

Crystal pond Krabi province, ThailandThis is a really cool place and worth the drive and even the 200 baht. There are a couple of smaller pools you can enjoy there, but the main attraction is the Crystal Pond or Crystal Lagoon that you see pictured here.
