In Thailand it seems that there is a Thai restaurant for every person here! Really, they are everywhere. Many families have the downstairs of their 2 or 3 story home open as a restaurant. They might not have too many customers each day, but it doesn't matter. They are hoping to make some food for only a few people each day and make some extra spending money.

Often times the owner is a retired or stay at home mom or grand mom that would rather be doing something, anything rather than sitting at home watching television soaps - Korean soap operas are VERY popular here. So, the televisions are always on and the soap operas or comedies are always playing.

Thai people watch a LOT of television. They watch at home. They watch in the department stores. They watch in the restaurants. They watch in the hairdressers. They watch in their CARS! (well, vcd's -which are like CD-ROMs with movies on them - 2 discs per movie).

I'm surprised at the quality level and variety of the foods here. It seems that nearly everyone that has an eatery can make excellent cuisine! I have had few bad experiences here - and even so, they were never that bad. I almost always finished my meal.
