Meditation Retreats in Thailand 3
"Saladan Buddhistic Living Quarters"
(Vipassana Meditation Center on Ko Lanta island (south of Krabi))

[Vipassana
Meditation
Center]

I've stopped at this center 3 times now and finally I met the monk that runs it, Ajarn Sayan. He is a very pleasant man!  He told me that the name of the center is, "Saladan Buddhist ic Living Quarters".

I apologize for not having much information about this meditation center, but he was eating lunch with 4 other monks and I didn't want to intrude for long. I did get his phone number so I can call for more info later. He said there would be no problem with staying for a couple days to meditate though I didn't ask him how much $ would be expected in terms of a donation.

There appears to be a couple buildings and possibly something else up the hill behind the center but I'm not sure. One of the buildings is a meditation hall with open sides but rain flaps on the sides.

Here is the phone number I was given for Ajarn Sayan an English speaking (Thai?) man of about 55 years of age that runs the center: 081 8767509.  Give him a call first as he is the main guy that speaks English and if you're planning your trip around this he may or may not be there.

[Location]

From the mainland of Krabi you'll take a ferry to the first small island. You'll follow the mad rush of cars and motorbikes to the next ferry jump off spot. You'll take that ferry to Koh Lanta. The cost for two of us AND the motorsai for the 2 ferry trips to Ko Lanta was 22 or 28 baht. Less than 75 cents usd. and that's WITH the motorbike too.  Ridiculously cheap.  When we arrived at Ko Lanta we slowed down for the drive around the island. One of the first things we saw was a Vipassana meditation center. The best directions I can give you is that you'll see it on the left hand side soon after you depart the ferry on Ko Lanta and make the right hand turn like everyone else.
