Dod Fa (Dodfa or Dot Fa) Waterfall in Surat Thani, Thailand

Girl crossing top of Dod fa waterfall in Suratthani, ThailandDod Fa waterfall is about 30km south of Surat Thani city on Highway 4009 in Ban Na San. Dodfa waterfall is part of Tai Rom Yen National Park which has numerous waterfalls, caves, and hikes. The closest waterfall to Surat is "Dod Fa".  This waterfall has 8 levels that are of varying difficulty to reach. The first 3 are easy enough - anyone could do it. The next few - up to level 6 are more difficult - if you aren't a regular hiker or do a lot of physical activity and are in shape we wouldn't recommend them - but, if you're not afraid of heat stroke then give it a go!  Recently we've made it to level 8.  The trail is not easy to figure out and at one point the correct trail to take is leading away from the stream on the left side - but, some friends were guiding us and we made it the whole way up to level 8 of this amazing waterfall.

You likely WON'T find level 8 on your own without some trial and error.  Keep in mind you must cross the stream multiple times to find the trails that continue up to level 8 and that might help you reach it.  Ask someone to guide you if you really want to see it as Dod Fa is very cool and the best waterfall in Tai Rom Yen National park that we've seen.

The staff do warn you not to go hiking into the Dot Fa waterfall area when there are heavy rains approaching - there could be flash floods. That being said, we've gone during rainy season quite a bit and though it rained on us while we were there - and we saw some obvious change in the levels of volume of water, but we still felt safe.  On the other hand, in Hawaii on Maui we also felt safe in some waterfall pools - before someone told us that a couple people had just died in a flash flood in the very spot we were swimming!

Walking across bamboo bridge at Dodfa stream, Suratthani, Thailand.Get into some walking shape anyway before you come if you want to see some really incredible waterfalls that not all that many people go to see when they vacation here...

Just down the road from Dod Fa are more waterfalls, hotsprings, and caves!

Update 1/20:  We have made it to the top of the waterfall - well, level 8. It is gorgeous. There is a small pool to swim in, but level 6 pool is bigger. However, there is about an 80 meter drop for the falls at level 8. It's really spectacular... waterfall photos and videos below.
