During the off-season in Ko Samui Thailand it is NOT difficult to find a room, even at one of the best hotel rooms. During the off season I would STILL recommend booking
before you arrive as the tuk-tuk drivers will take you where THEY want to take you and where they will receive the most commission for bringing you. This may or not work
out well for you. Already you'd be paying the tuk-tuk driver's fee of a few hundred or a thousand Thai baht if you go this route.
If you book your hotel reservation early you will have the peace of mind that comes with it. If you are picky at all about what room you get, then too - you will want to book early because many of the hotels on Ko Samui are of the small variety and they don't have that many rooms that are different.
Most of the hotel accomodations on Ko Samui are smaller and on or near the beach - since there really is no inland locations. There are mountains and beaches. That is all on Ko Samui!
