Ko Samui Thailand: Favorite things to do List!
My favorite things to do on Ko Samui Thailand seemed like a good
idea for a blog post. While there are many things to do - these are
things that I don't tire of...
I love to rent a bungalow in Tong Takien Bay and spend some time
sitting out under the trees - getting a massage by the women that
are there with the massage tables. There aren't many tourists there
during the off-season - only a few and it's easy to get caught up in
the slow pace right there and drift off to sleep between short book
or magazine reads.
One of my favorite things to do on Ko Samui is to hike up one of the
waterfalls. Na Muang II is really quite something and I never tire
of seeing that one. The hike is pretty rigorous and I feel like I've
exercised when I get finished with it. Be cautious - I've seen many
tourists that weren't quite in shape trekking this one... the heat
of Ko Samui in the summer months is deadly and especially during
some parts (most parts) of the climb to the waterfalls - there is
heavy tree cover and the wind cannot get through to cool you down.
Yes you have shade, but it's 38 degrees C in the shade and high
humidity - you WILL feel it.
I really like to buy some toys - cheap toys - for a couple hundred
baht. I usually buy 10 of each of something - and get a few things.
I like to keep them with us as we drive the motorbike around.
Invariably some kids will see me and start saying "hello! Hello!"
and screaming to tell someone that he/she sees a farang... I like to
go over and talk to them a bit and then give them something. Makes
them happy. Makes me happy. I don't do it enough, but sometimes when
I think about it - it's a great feeling to do it!
I like to go to Starbucks as one of my favorite things on Ko Samui!
What ??? Where I live there isn't one. There is no western style
coffee unless you count Black Canyon Coffee - which I don't. I just
love Starbucks flavor. It's a shame there's no Chai Tazo Frappuccino
like there is back in the states. I was ADDICTED to that.
I like to drive the motorbike up into the mountains for lunch and
eat at one of two restaurants I know of that have a great view and
rarely anyone else there. I don't know HOW these restaurants survive
up there. The air is so much cooler in the mountains. Be careful
driving - lots of slippery mud and it rains frequently up there.
One favorite thing is to drive the motorbike around to some place I
haven't seen yet. It might be a whole section of the island. It
might be a street or a series of streets that I hadn't seen yet.
This is always interesting and if I have time I do it sometimes.
I like to eat at the restaurant just on the west side of Hin ta and
Hin yai... called "Sabiang Lay". It overlooks the ocean and is cool
at night. The food is very delicious and not too high priced. The
staff is friendly and it's mostly Thais' eating there. That's how
you KNOW it's good Thai food!
I really like to wake up early for sunrise - or just after and go
see the sun come up at Grandmother and Grandfather rocks - Hin Ta
and Hin Yai. The whole area there is really remarkably beautiful and
there are few people there. It's a beautiful time for a couple
hours.
Hmm, what else... I think those are my favorite things to do... WHAT
ARE YOURS???
