Hotels in Koh Samui Thailand are overall not all that expensive...
You'll be able to find reasonable places that are clean, and private
for just 500 baht per night right on the beach at Tong Takien bay in
Ko Samui.
 The hotels in Koh Samui that we stay in are in Tong Takien bay. This
is a quiet bay filled with hotels in every permutation - resorts,
bungalows, 1 story, 2 story... The area is generally very quiet
during the off-season and we've enjoyed the hotels in this area for
all of our visits.
Hotels in Ko Samui are generally in good shape and the staff is
polite. The hotels in Lamai tend to be in a little worse condition
because they have a high turnover. Hotels in Chaweng are higher
priced and with more amenities. There are more resorts and spas in
Chaweng and they are generally more expensive than other hotels in
the rest of the island.
Hotels in Ko Samui usually require pre-booking in the high-season
since there are a limited number of rooms and the high season brings
people from all over the world in this large group that wants the
cheapest places to stay first - and then later the higher priced
hotels in Samui get booked up too. If you pre-book you will be
happier during the high-season. During off-season - no matter, just
arrive and set about to finding a hotel if you like... stopping at
many to inquire about prices. The usual mode for getting around the
island to the different hotels in Koh Samui is by tuk-tuk. If you
pre-book, some hotels will pick you up at the ferry in a van or taxi
service.
Hotels in Koh Samui are a little more expensive during the
high-season. If the low-season rate is 500 for fan the high season
rate might be 800 or even double what the low rate was. For a nice
room in Samui the price may go from 1500 baht to 3000 baht from
season to season. Please pre-book before arriving to save yourself
some stress...
