Thailand Wireless Broadband (WIFI) Access?
Yes, broadband internet access - even WiFi is available on Ko Samui
Thailand!
In short, that is the answer. Ko Samui has a few places that have
broadband internet access that is even WIFI - (wireless b/g) in some
places. "Web Sawadee" in the IT complex has an outdoor seating area
where the WIFI is good for up to 100 feet. They have laptop and
desktop stations and serve coffee and snacks as well. They claim 2
MBps which is quite fast if it's true. Keep in mind that this speed
will probably mean within Thailand servers. You won't find this
speed when accessing sites with servers located in countries other
than Thailand.
The following comes from "Jwire.com". They list two places as having
broadband wireless (WIFI) hotspots on Ko Samui... One at a hotel in
Chaweng called, "Chaweng Blue Lagoon Hotel" which is 802.11G
wireless. The other is at a Starbucks in Chaweng beach that is
802.11B wireless. Presumably one gets the wireless at the hotel for
free and the Starbucks is pay as you play.
Ko Samui Thailand is rather wired for internet these days. There are
many other hotels that offer regular and WIFI internet connection for their guests -
this list is small though considering how many tourists visit Samui
every year. When you make your reservation give them
a call or do some research online to find if they have a WIFI or
broadband (or dial-up) or ANY connection to the internet. It's
possible to stay connected here - but a little foresight and
planning will go a long way towards keeping you happy and wired in
Ko Samui.
Coincidentally, if you stop in Surat Thani (Suratthani) before going
to Ko Samui and you want the scoop on a FREE wifi broadband coffee
