Thai Criminals - Thai Prisons

Thai criminals and the prisons are subjects I know very little about. I wish I knew more. It seems that most of the violent crimes here are between those that know each other well... meaning, they are crimes that take place between those that are friends, lovers, and family members... Then of course  there are contract killings.

There were rumors in Ubon that one could get someone killed for 20-40,000 baht by paying the killer as well as the police.  Well, not really rumors. It was told to me twice by Thai guys that had the connections to those that would do it.

Killing another farang would be a bit more difficult than killing a Thai since it WOULD be investigated and probably quite thoroughly.  Having a westerner killed would involve a lot more money if you wanted to get away with it cleanly (I was told...). Finding someone to do the job wouldn't be as hard as you might think. Anyway, enough on that subject. People are murdered here all the time by contract killers and if they are investigated I'd say that a good portion of them get caught. If they are not investigated by the police then few get caught.

I've read a couple books about westerners that were put in Thai prison for drug offenses. The Thai prisons seem pretty bad as far as prisons go.  Again, I've not much experience in this area.

There is a Thai man that has written many Articles in Thailand about what it's like to be a young Thai man and going through life and it's trials...  NOW he is in jail and he can still update his blog a little bit...  his site is worth checking out...  "Thai Prison Life"
