Thailand Tourist Season Calendar

Here is a general idea of the tourist calendar - HIGH season and LOW season for visitors. Keep in mind that during certain times of the year and depending where you go - the THAI HOLIDAYS are important too. There are a large number of Thai people and resident westerners (expats) living here in Thailand that go on holiday for 3 day and 4 day weekends when they get the chance. Where do they go? Same place you want to go when you come from your country: Ko Samui; Krabi; Railay Beach; Pattaya; Patong, Phuket; Ko Chang; Ko Samet and usually other beach areas.

November to May are generally considered HIGH SEASON months.  There will be many tourists at the major destinations. I think I read that Thailand gets about 13 million visitors each year from other countries. That is HUGE.  When I was in Hawaii the figure was between 5 and 6 million visitors each year.

June to October is LOW SEASON.  It is more pleasant to come during this time if it isn't raining everyday. Check the precipitation calendar to see if your destination is typically underwater during the months you plan to visit. It is October here now as I write this and it's raining nearly daily and sometimes all day and for a couple days. There are BIG FLOOD problems all over the north of Thailand.  During low season some ferries don't run to all their destinations as there aren't enough paying passengers to make sense for them to go.  We encountered this in Krabi when we wanted to go to Phi Phi and then Phuket. The boats weren't going the whole way to Phuket. Check everything before you come.
