Difficulty Finding Houses to Rent in Thailand

If you’re not going to be living in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, or Pattaya, you’re probably going to have a harder time than you should finding a decent rental house in Thailand. We always seem to. I think my specifications aren’t too outrageous…

We want a 2 story house or townhome with 3 bedrooms and 1-2 bathrooms – 2 preferred. We want a place for a truck – covered – doesn’t have to be a full garage. We want air con at least in the master bedroom. The house should be free from holes in which critters could come in – or we’ll patch them – no matter on this really, would prefer it already done.

We want bars on the windows – been ripped off a couple of times WITH bars – wonder what would be happening without them.

Hot water shower – ok. Yard would be nice.

Pay under 10K THB.

I wish there was one place online where I could go – like Thailandhouserentals.com and find houses in whatever city we happen to be in. We just visited 4 cities and had a very hard time finding rentable homes in any of them. Maybe we’ll just move in with the in-laws…

Anybody have any suggestions where to go online to find ’em?

  1. OK, I guess it’s a lot cheaper in the N.E. Location is a big deal for me, so I guess I’ve always paid a premium. My Chi-Thai wife would never let us get ripped off on principle and because she relentlessly cheap. The least I paid was 12k but that was for a modern well finished place and the most was 38k in BKK, which isn’t that bad for Bangkok, really. You’d pay more than that to live in a shoe box and be beaten before work by your Ma and Pa in New York.

  2. Under 10k – are you kidding? Seems a bit unrealistic for a two story house. Although it depends on where you are living, really.

    1. Had a giant house in Surat for 7000 – 2 floors, 4 bedrooms. In Ubon had another giant house for 3500 THB. In Surat I had friends renting out bigger houses than I had for 5000 THB. All two story.
