I met a guy at a mountain temple a few years back… maybe like 6 years ago. He was sweating profusely and I couldn’t catch him going up the steps. I thought – WTF – that guy must be 60 years old. He was about 65 then. Now he’s 71-72 and still kicking ass.
“Alfred” is from the UK. He has, and has had, an amazing life… if you ever get to talk to him about it. He can bound up the stairs – 278 meters vertical height, in 15 1/2 minutes. It takes most people about 40 minutes to get to the top.
I told him I climbed the stairs up the mountain 3 times, one after another… so what did he do? Climbed it 4 times in 3 hours. The guy is an animal! He once held the record for the fastest run across England.
Alfred has competed in the 12-hour test in Malacca, and the skyscraper climb in Bangkok – forget the name of the event, it’s called a “Marathon” though, and involves about 60 flights of stairs.
Is there another expat in Thailand that is at this level of fitness at the same age? I strongly doubt it… would love to hear from he or she if there is though!
Anyway, watch the video and get an idea of what you should be doing in your seventies…
