$86,000 AUD. Hospital Bill in Thailand?

Here’s a sick tale of a guy that lived in Thailand for a number of years, his health insurance lapsed right before he came down with a debilitating illness that was first misdiagnosed, then got really serious…

His bill was outrageously high… but, if in Australia – would it have been similar? No idea…but, he paid 13,000 AUD for a helicopter flight from Samui to Bangkok!

Here’s the article >

For me – I’m ready to go just about anytime now. If they can’t save me at a local Thai public hospital and for damn cheap – just let me go on to the next level…

AUD 86000 seems outrageous, but the prices in some private hospitals in Bangkok have really increased exponentially. Next time try for less expensive public hospitals.
I suggest that expats form an advisory circle to help other expats in case of emergency. Surely there are lots of helpful infos around.

Well this story reminds me that I need to get resident status in California. That will allow me to use the State of California Veterans Homes and the Federal Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles,Ca.
