What is Living in Thailand REALLY Like?

Thailand Hotel Review: Novotel Phuket

Novotel Phuket Hotel General Description:

An older hotel built with traditional Thai style and charm, with rooms starting to show the wear of the years. This hotel is perfectly located on a hillside overlooking Patong Beach. The grounds are well cared for, and the rooms and common areas are very clean. Ideal for honeymooners or families with teens.

  • Six restaurants and bars – Thai, American, Mexican, Italian, and French cuisine served
  • Three-tiered swimming pool with wet bar – All levels have views overlooking Patong Beach
  • Eight acres of lush tropical gardens
  • Great views of Patong’s city and beach
  • Tennis courts, table tennis, petanque, and fitness center
  • Kids playground
  • Daily classes and group activities

Phuket Novotel hotel suffered no damage from the 2004 tsunami, as it is high enough up the hill that it was unaffected. The rooms are spread out over the hill and some guests might find it difficult to often walk up the steep inclines and steps.

The staff is incredibly polite and attentive, as well as immaculately dressed.

There is plenty to do: tennis, table tennis, petanque, fitness center, and water activities like aerobics, basketball and volleyball. There are daily classes for all ages to join.

Shoppers can walk the streets of Patong for a couple of days and not see it all. Hardcore shoppers could also head to nearby Phuket Town in a tuk-tuk (small taxi vehicle) or bus and find a large mall and numerous shopping centers like Tesco and Big C.

You might consider room prices at this resort to be a bit high at $80 to $120, and truthfully, for Thailand they are a bit high. When put into perspective, a comparable room on an island in the USA (say in Hawaii) would run four to ten times more. If you require the extra pampering, you’ll be happy at the Novotel Phuket.

Bottom Line

If you don’t mind paying about $100 for a room in Thailand, you’ll be very happy at the Phuket Novotel. The added bonus of being safe from future tsunamis might sway you toward choosing this hotel, considering nearly all the other Patong hotels are at sea level.
