What is Living in Thailand REALLY Like?

Where to Stay in Phuket?

Huge villas with an exceptional level of privacy. Go to Bismarck’s, you’ll enjoy the hell out of it.

Over the last twelve years, I’ve visited Phuket a number of times, mostly because they have great shopping, incredible beaches, and the nightlife is the best in Thailand in my opinion. You just can’t beat Soi Bangla for putting a smile on your face, and I think Pattaya pales in comparison.

Where to stay while in Phuket?

Recently I had a chance to stay at some luxury villas that I’d have never booked for myself, it was offered to me, and I had to take them up on the offer!

In Hawaii, I stayed at some nice places – Oahu, and Maui. Hawaii does it right. Everything is done right. I have never seen that in Thailand, and nor did I ever expect to. I hate to say it this way, but Thais certainly don’t do high-end the right way. They try, but builders skimp on details and coffee is never done right in the room – ever. I haven’t stayed at some of the high-end rooms at Nakamanda in Nong Talay, Krabi, for instance – but then I couldn’t imagine that I’d be happy when paying 20,000 Thai Baht a night for a room in Thailand.

Anyway, so this place in Phuket is a luxury villa in the northwest of the island, near the Phuket Airport, but far enough away that you don’t hear the planes taking off and landing. What they did was create a little private oasis where they built high walls between the villas, and separated them from each other. They hand-picked staff that were incredibly polite and anxious to please. The food was perfect – Thai and western dishes – and the atmosphere at the villas was romantic and with a nice mountain view. We had a couple of nice nights where the wind blew softly and we didn’t need the air, but we turned it on anyway! The pool attached to our villa was a really nice touch you aren’t going to get at a hotel. There was no harsh chemical smell of chlorine, they somehow keep it clean with other natural means.

The furniture was all upgraded and the latest, as far as I could tell. The location is far enough away from Patong Beach’s madness that we could actually relax, and yet it isn’t a far drive to get down to Surin or Paradise Beach for a morning lounge around the beach and lunch.

I think the highlights were the food, and the personal service from Nu – one of the lovely staff members who took care of us during our entire stay. Though we didn’t, you can have meals cooked for you and a massage arranged in your villa as the massage girl will visit you there.

These luxury villas are the perfect getaway for a romantic couple of nights but are also great for kids who love the pool. Service is A-1 and I would recommend this place if you’re looking for a very private place to stay.

Rental cars or scooters can be arranged easily, and literally – it seemed like anything we wanted could have been arranged. As I said, we don’t usually stay in such a nice place because we don’t like to pay to be pampered, however, that may have all changed now because we found the experience quite relaxing and rejuvenating.

Bismarck’s Luxury Villas in Phuket is fairly priced for the incredible villas and service. Compare them to any high-end hotel or resort, and they compare favorably – and you will pay much more at high-end resorts.
